Kirsti Kotilainen is a Finnish visual artist living and working in Dublin, Ireland.
Her paintings are still lives of objects and moments caught unawares, classrooms and book lockers and hospital beds sitting empty and disused. These are purposeful items suspended in moments of purposelessness, empty stage sets waiting for action, voids seeking their soul.
Her works are constructed out of everyday materials, mostly found materials discarded by others. These found materials tell a story of chance and temporality. Her paintings on bare untreated pieces of wood pulled out of builders skips around the city of Dublin have lived out full and purposeful past lives, and through being discarded eventually found their salvation and new purpose as vehicles of artistic expression.
